Communications systems engineer, amateur radio operator, and lifelong tinkerer.
Howdy! I'm a communications systems engineer at Building Network Solutions, working on mission-critical radio and in-building coverage systems around the Dallas–Fort Worth area. I was born in Illinois and have lived in Texas ever since. I like taking things apart to understand how they work and picking up new skills along the way.
At Building Network Solutions I work on communications infrastructure that has to keep working when failure isn't an option — cellular and public-safety DAS, in-building coverage, fiber, frequency coordination, and land mobile radio systems (Kenwood NXDN, Motorola DMR and P25 trunked). A lot of that is hands-on: programming and troubleshooting radios, repairing hardware, and keeping deployed systems healthy in the field, including the infrastructure behind some of the big sports and entertainment venues in DFW.
Before this I spent a few years in semiconductor test engineering at Texas Instruments, writing test programs and designing load boards for automotive processors, plus a graduate research project on fingerprinting chips from their test responses. That background is where I picked up structured troubleshooting and a habit of thinking in whole systems.
Outside of work, the same curiosity goes into amateur radio, a home network that has grown well past “home” scale, and a long-running project to convert an old pipe organ to MIDI.
